BACKSTREET BOYS: Woman's Love Of Boy Band Lands Her On 'Oprah' Show

Noelle McGillis plastered her walls with posters of her favorite pop band, the Backstreet Boys, in the 1990s. She also danced to every CD they made and held tight to the romantic, far-fetched dream of meeting her favorite heartthrob in the band, Nick Carter.

Her mother never expected her infatuation to pay off.

Pam McGillis said the producers of Oprah Winfrey's talk show chose her 24-year-old daughter and a friend as the biggest Backstreet Boys fans. After being picked from a pool of about 3,500 fans, Noelle McGillis and her friend were invited to attend an Oct. 22 of the show.

Pam McGillis said the notification and taping processes were briskly paced.

The show's producers contacted the McGillises on Oct. 17. A producer filmed Noelle McGillis and told her the tape would be reviewed before a decision would be made on whether to have her on the show. Noelle said she didn't know at the time, but she already had been chosen.

The "Oprah" crew flew Noelle McGillis and Meghan Gibson to the show for the taping.

"I'm having anxiety about this," Noelle McGillis said, adding she is a little concerned about looking silly on national television.

Pam and Noelle McGillis said they aren't allowed to reveal too much about the content of the show, though Pam McGillis said the two fans did a Backstreet Boys-style dance. She also said her daughter was serenaded by Carter upon her arrival at the studio.
