This is the best thing Ryan Seacrest has ever done: he confirmed on his radio show this morning that boy band legends New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys will unite for a tour in summer 2011.
The tour, cleverly titled NKOTBSB , has been rumored ever since BSB's surprise appearance during the NKOTB concert in June. To whet fans' appetities for the tour, the two bands will perform together at the American Music Awards, airing Nov. 21 on ABC.
This is such a shrewd business move. In an era where big name tours are struggling to sell tickets and barely filling up their arenas, having two boy bands with massive followings tour together seems like a sure thing. And while there's some crossover between the fan bases, it will also bring in two generations of boy band fanatics. Even though I was an 'N SYNC follower in my youth, I won't be missing out on this sure-to-be-awesome show.
