THIS IS US TOUR: BSB Don't Let Anyone Get Up Close In Melbourne

ONCE one of the biggest bands in the world, blast-from-the-past crooners the Backstreet Boys yesterday showed they have an inflated sense of their own dwindling celebrity.
Despite singing for a well-heeled crowd of 600 society ladies and celebrities at the Beautiful Girls lunch, the foursome saw a need for a team of bodyguards to surround the small stage as they performed three songs with trademark synchronised dance moves.

The guards aggressively bumped aside journalists politely trying to get a view of the stage.

Nick Carter, A.J. McLean, Howie Dorough and Brian Littrell refused interviews this week with music writers or reporters at yesterday's lunch, even though ticket sales to their concert tomorrow are lagging.

So struggling are they to fill Rod Laver Arena, goodie bags handed out to lunch guests included a two-for-one ticket deal to the concert.

Myer ambassadors Lauren Phillips and Rebecca Twigley, who were in their early teens when the band was at its height, loved the performance, dancing in their seats and mimicking the exaggerated dance moves.
