THIS IS US TOUR: Behind The Scenes

The Backstreet Boys might be men now, but their antics and practical jokes are still reminiscent of the youth they have left behind! Before the concert, the foursome were seen laughing and joking with each other. Their energy on stage might have been phenomenal, but their antics back stage were quite amusing as they pranced about, video recording and clicking snaps of people unaware of what was happening. Jumping over a couple of stunned onlookers and basically playing practical jokes on anyone they could find. Their philosophy was evident — whether you like pop or not, we’re gonna have a wild time. And they did!

Richard Marx is gentleman personified. He seems to be a regular and very clued in father too! The singer and composer was affable and open, even mocking at his rocker “hair style” in the 80s, saying, “They (my three sons) love to make fun of my hair in the 80s! They rib me about it all the time. They genuinely like my music which is great. My eldest son is 19 years old and he’s into hard rock. When he comes up to me and says, ‘Hey Dad, can you put an album of yours on my ipod,’ I think it tells me how much they like my music. That’s really awesome!” Marx is usually busy composing for musicians from all over the globe apart from working on his albums and when he finds the time, he likes to “lie like broccoli!” “My favourite holiday destination is in the Bahamas, a place called the One and Only. It is a private resort where the first Daniel Craig film Casino Royale was shot. The first few scenes in the film have been shot in the resort. My idea of holidaying is to do NOTHING, just lie by the water. I don’t want to be adventurous, go hiking or whatever. I just want to be.”

We caught Anu Malik in his true element. While speaking about the Javed Akhtar-Aamir Khan spate, he quipped, “I should get royalty for my songs too. Have you heard of my song soona soona that Ekta Kapoor plays in her serials?” It took a while for our correspondent to recollect the song but Anuji was impatient. “Arre my song, soona soona lamha lamha, meri rahein tanha tanha,” he sang. One could just imagine him clicking his fingers and clapping in true Indian Idol style. While we were listening to the song, there was an interruption, “Dheere chalao. Why can’t you drive slow?” he screamed at his driver and continued singing the song. Wah Anuji wah!

Catching up over a delicious hot cuppa is a favourite pastime for many. But what happens when you get more than the order you bargained for? On Tuesday evening at Coffee World, there were tiny brown creatures running around the breads, icecreams, chopping board, containers and even the billing counter. When an attendant was informed, she brushed the tiny creature aside which duly fell on the icecreams. This happened three more times until the angry customer demanded an explanation. However, when confronted, she was given the feeble excuse of “What to do madam? We haven’t done pest control in a while.” With the meal costing an average of Rs 75 per person, that is one heavy price to pay for these little creatures. Bon appetite!
Singer Bindu Subramaniam, daughter of violinist Dr L Subramaniam and singer
Kavita Krishnamurti wed Chennai-based businessman Prem Sai in Kerala recently.
Only family members were invited for the wedding which took place in a temple. A big reception is being planned for the couple in Bengaluru.

Bindu’s brothers Narayana and Ambi Subramaniam were around to lend their sister
support.
