AARON CARTER: Working On New Law To Protect Child Stars

Los Angeles, CA (CNS) - Aaron Carter wants a new law to protect child stars from financial ruin. The former child singer, who now owes the Internal Revenue Service over $1 million in back taxes, says he is working on passing a law to protect child stars.

Carter, 21, first entered showbiz in 1997 when he released his first single "Crush on You." He opened for his brother Nick's boy band, Backstreet Boys, in Berlin. From then, he went on to make a name for himself.

In 2003, he filed for legal emancipation from his mother, claiming she took more than $100,000 from his bank account without his permission. He had mentioned in an interview that he was missing more than $6 million from his account.

He is currently being sued by the IRS over his unpaid taxes that amount to more than $1 million. His camp blames his financial woes on his former management team, claiming the singer was unaware he owed taxes until the press reported about it.

He told TV Guide magazine that he is working on a law to protect young kids from their parents, adding children cannot be held responsible for their finances.

Carter is seeking advice from fellow "Dancing With the Stars" contestant, politician Tom DeLay.
